Although the RNID does not target its services specifically on deafened people, it does provide a wide range of services for people with all types of hearing impairment. Many of these services can benefit deafened people. RNID services mentioned elsewhere on this website are concerned with: tinnitus; disability and other benefits; employment and training; communication support; technical aids at work; and protection against discrimination in employment because of your deafness.

The RNID also has a network of Regional Offices that can give you information about services available locally. In England there are Regional Offices in Birmingham, Manchester and Bristol; in Wales the main office is in Cardiff; in Scotland there are offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen; and in Northern Ireland there is an office in Belfast.

For the contact details of these offices ring or fax the numbers given above or go to www.rnid.org.uk/regions

DIAL UK is a national association of 140 local independent voluntary organisations that provide free information/advice, and in some cases practical help, on a wide range of disability issues. (DIALs stands for Disability Information and Advice Lines). Most of DIAL UK's member organisations are staffed mainly by trained volunteers who are themselves disabled people. DIAL UK provides training and support for advisers, a monthly information service and a central database containing more than 5,000 records of organisations and publications and factsheets on a variety of disability issues.

Although DIAL UK member organisations and advisers will not necessarily have any particular expertise on deafness they may be a very useful source of information about local facilities for disabled people and can often help if you need advice and support to get welfare benefits or take action against discrimination. (Most DIAL UK member organisations have textphones).
