WORKING WITHOUT HEARING
How to keep your job or find another one
when you have become profoundly deaf

by Mark Weston

Have you recently become severely or profoundly deaf?

Or do you expect to become severely or profoundly deaf in the near future?

And are you concerned about how you are going to keep your job or find a new one?

If so, this website is for you.

It can help you in several ways:

This website is based on a book entitled "Working Without Hearing" written by Mark Weston and available for £4.95 (including postage) from the Forest Bookshop by telephoning 01594 833858(voice or textphone), by email at deafbooks@forestbooks.com or on the website www.ForestBooks.com.

However, although the book is the starting point for this website, we want the website itself to develop and grow by incorporating users' experience. So please press contact us if you think that you have something useful to contribute. In particular we want your contribution if:

  • you have managed to keep your job or start a new career after losing your hearing and think that your experience could help other people who are working when they lose their hearing;
  • you have useful tips to offer, based on your own experience, on how to survive and prosper in employment after becoming severely or profoundly deaf;
  • you can update information about organisations included on this website or have information about any national or local organisations not included on this website that have helped you cope with problems caused by your deafness; or
  • you have suggestions for improving the presentation, content or operation of this website.

We cannot guarantee that all contributions will be accepted; but the website will be updated at regular intervals to incorporate users' contributions so that we can all benefit from the collective wisdom of the deafened workers and others who explore this website.
